Solution

The correct option is D 1670
According to Chargaff's rule, in a double stranded DNA molecule, the amount of adenine (A) is equal to the amount of thymine (T), and the amount of cytosine(C) is equal to the amount of guanine (G), or A = T and G = C.
In other words, the number of purine residues is equal to the number of pyrimidine residues.
⇒ A + G = T + C
Given that the total number of nitrogenous bases is 4600 in a double stranded DNA. If 630 molecules are of Adenine, then 630 will also be of Thymine.
Then, A + T = 630 + 630 = 1260.
So, G + C = 4600 - 1260
⇒ G + C = 3340
Since, G = C
Hence, the number of cytosine = 3340/2 = 1670.
