When 2 die are thrown the number of total elementary events
=6×6=36.
In ordre to get a total of 3 the events are
(1,2),(2,1),=2 events.
In ordre to get a total of 5 the events are
(2,3),(4,1),(3,2),(1,4)=4 events.
The total number of favourable evets =2+4=6.
The probability of getting a total of 3 or 5
=numberoffavourableeventsnumberofelementaryevents=636=16.
