The nutrient medium ion tissue culture technique contains both the plant hormones Auxin and Cytokinin. An excess of Auxin will promote root formation whereas an excess of cytokinin will promote shoot formation. Equal amounts of both will result in formation of an undifferentiated unorganised mass of cells known as Callus. The callus is a totipotent tissue that may differentiate into any type of plant tissue depending upon the morphology and anotomy of different species of plants.
