In tongue grafting, oblique sloping notches is made on both the stock and the scion. Both the scion and stock are interlocked with a good fit and tied together. The interlocking ‘tongues’ add structural support to the join as the cambium layers heal and fuse together, as well giving a larger surface area of cambial contact.
