In a zener-regulated power supply a zener diode with Vz=6 volt is used for regulation. The load current is to be 4 mA and the unregulated input is 10 volt. What should be the value of series resistor Rs if the current through diode is five times the load current?

Appyling KCL at Node -A
I=(20+4)mA=24mA
Applying KVL in the loop
10V+VR+Vz=0
As Vz=6V
VR=10V6V=4V
Also,
By ohm's law
VR=RsI
4V=Rs(24mA)
424×103=Rs
Rs=1036=166.67Ω
The value of series resistor is 166.67Ω
