In ABAB close packing in 3-D, we have seen that we get tetrahedral voids when the triangular spaces in the first layer are covered by the spheres in the second layer.

We get an octahedral void when the triangular spaces of the first layer and the second layer overlap.

In the figure above, the tetrahedral voids are green in colour and octahedral voids are yellow in colour. Think about this for a while if you don’t get it!
