Let assume $D$ got $x$ marks.

Then according to the question,

Marks obtained by $C=85\%\times x$

$=0.85x$

Marks obtained by $B=120\%\times 0.85x$

$=1.02x$

Marks obtained by $A=120\%\times 1.02x$

$=1.224x$

But it is given that marks obtained by $A$ is $400,$

$1.224x=400$

$\Rightarrow x=327$

$\therefore$ Percentage marks of $D=\frac{327}{1000}\times 100$

$=32.7\%$

$\approx 35\%$
