Question

In an experiment to determine the density of the given solid (denser than water) by using a spring balance and a measuring cylinder, following obs. we're made:
? Mass of solid is 125g.
? Initial water level in cylinder is 45ml.
? Final water level in cylinder is 69ml.
On the basis of these obs. what is the density of the object if the spring balance showed a reading of 5g before suspending the solid?

Solution

Dear Student

Mass of solid =Final reading of spring balance - initial reading of spring balance×ggMass of solid = 125-5 =120gVolume of solid = 69-45 =24 mlDensity =MassVolume =120 g24 cm3 =5g/cm3
