Question

In covalent or network solids what do they mean by "can decomposenbefore melting"

Open in App
Solution

If the bond dissociation energy of the bond formed between the constituent atoms in a covalent solid is less than the energy needed to change the physical state of solid, or if the bond breaks at a temperature lower than the melting point of the solid, then these solids tend to decompose before they melt.
