Open in App
Solution

The electrolysis of water in the form of a chemical reaction is as follows.

2H2O2H2+O2

- In the electrolysis of water hydrogen and oxygen gases are released.

(a) The gas which is released at the cathode is hydrogen H2 and the gas released at the anode is oxygen,O2.

(b) From the above chemical reaction we can see that two moles of water undergoes electrolysis and produces two moles of hydrogen and one mole of oxygen gas.
