In Fig. 12.30, OACB is a quadrant of a circle with centre O and radius 3.5 cm. If OD = 2 cm, find the area of the
(i) quadrant OACB
(ii) shaded region.

Radius of the quadrant =3.5cm=72cm
Area of quadrant = (πR2)4cm2
=(227×72×72)4cm2
=778cm2

(ii) Radius of the quadrant
=3.5cm=72cm

Area of Δ BDO
= 12×(base)×(height)

Area of triangle BOD
=12×72×2 cm2
=72 cm2

Area of shaded region = Area of quadrant - Area of triangle BOD
=(77872) cm2=498 cm2
=6.125 cm2
