From the symmetry of the given figure, we have

Area of the shaded region = Area of the square with side 14 cm - (Area of square with side 4 cm + 4 × Area of each semicircle with radius 2 cm)
=14×14[4×4+4×12×3.14×(2)2]
= 196 - (16 + 25.12)
= 196 - 41.12
= 154.88 cm2
