In groups 2 and 17 in the periodic table , the difference in atomic numbers of the elements is 8, 8, 18, 18, 32. What does the term 'difference in atomic numbers of elements' mean?

The difference in atomic number means that if the first element has atomic number 8 and other elements in the same group has the atomic number is 16 then the difference is 16-8 = 8
So this is how it follows the rule 8, 8 , 18 , 18 ,32
