Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase performed an experiment in 1952 to prove that DNA is a genetic material. In which they allow bacteriophage to grow in a radioactive medium that contains phosphorus while $S^{35}$ was introduced in protein coat then the virus lead to infection and then they blend to remove the protein coat.
Bacteria with $S^{35}$ virus was not found infected and was present in supernatant while with $P^{32}$ was infected and was not found in supernatant.
