Question

In one video it was told that anions have a change in their name . Such as chlorine becomes chloride. So "ide"is only added when the compound is formed. Why? So why it cannot be in in normal molecule formation of atoms??

Solution

The nomenclature of compounds is a very vast area. There are many conditions to be considered for naming a compound. An atom may be chlorine or oxygen, when they combines with other elements they get an ide with their name.
For eg, HCl is called hydrogen chloride. CO2 is called carbon dioxide.
Like this ide comes with certain molecule names only. Not with single atoms or compounds containing only 1 type of atoms.
