Question

In the arrangement shown in figure pulleys are small, light and frictionless. Threads are inextensible and masses of blocks A, B and C are m1=5 kg, m2=4 kg and m3=2.5 kg respectively. Coefficient of friction for both the planes is =0.50.

Solution

The correct option is C none of these
Let the acceleration of A , B and C be a1 ,a2 and a3
For block A
T+m1gsin37m1gcos37×μ=m1a1
T+10=5a1 ...(1)
The maximum tension rope can be Tmax=m3g/2=2.5g2=12.5N
Maximum friction for block B fmax=μm2g=0.5×4g=20N
So block B will remain in rest ,fmax>Tmax
a2=0 ...(2)
for block C
m3g2T=m3a3
252T=2.5a3 ..(3)
by constraint relation
a1+a2=2a3 ..(4)
on solving above 4 equation
we get a1=4m/s2
a2=0m/s2
a3=2m/s2
