The unbalanced chemical equation is K2Cr2O7+xH2SO4+ySO2K2SO4+Cr(SO4)3+zH2O
The number of sulphate ions on the two sides of the equation should b same. Hence, the coefficient x of sulphuric acid on LHS is 1.
RHS contains 4 S atoms and LHS contains 2 S atoms. To balance the S atoms, the coefficient 3 is added to SO2 on LHS.
The number of H atoms on both sides of equation is balanced. Hence, the coefficient of water is 1.
The balanced chemical equation is K2Cr2O7+H2SO4+3SO2K2SO4+Cr(SO4)3+H2O.
Hence, x=1,y=3 and z=1.
