Now assume acceleration of C as up, differentiating

dldt=0 ∴ l is constant
0=2vA−2vB−2vC
dxAdt=+vA ∴ Acceleration is increasing it
dxBdt=−vB& dxCdt=−vC
⇒ vB+vC=vA
⇒ aB+aC=aA
⇒ 1+aC=2
aC = 1 m/s2 upwards as we assumed it
If you would have assumed aC downwards in the beginning then you would have got aC = -1 which means your assumption is wrong its going in opposite direction.
