(a) In the given figure, resistor$3\Omega$ and $1\Omega$ are in series and $2\Omega$ and $8\Omega$ are in series. So their equivalent is

So their equivalent is

$R_{eq1}=10\Omega$

$R_{eq2}=4\Omega$

Now $R_{eq1}=10\Omega$ and $R_{eq2}=4\Omega$ are in parallel

$\frac{1}{R_{eq}}=\frac{1}{10}+\frac{1}{4}$

$\frac{1}{R_{eq}}=\frac{7}{20}$

$R_{eq}=\frac{20}{7}$

(b) Total current

$I=\frac{V}{R}$

$=\frac{24}{\frac{20}{7}}$

$I=8.4A$
