The ovary consists of the germinal epithelium and the inner ovarian stroma. The germinal epithelium gives rise to the precursors of the female gametes or eggs. The ovarian stroma itself is divided into two primary portions: the outer cortex and the inner medulla. The egg travels from the ovary to the uterus via the fallopian tube. The uterus leads into the cervix which then opens into the vagina which accommodates the male erectile organ - the penis. Hence, the cervix connects the vagina and uterus. The top portion of the uterus opposite the cervix is known as the fundus.
