Solution

Projectile motion:

The diagrammatic representation of the projectile motion of a projectile is given below:

  1. Here, u is the velocity of the projectile, ux is the horizontal component and uy is the vertical component of the velocity of the projectile at an instant.
  2. Here, θis the angle of projection and A is the point where the projectile has the maximum height.
  3. The only acceleration acting on the projectile is gravity. Hence, the direction of acceleration will be downwards. The downward direction is considered a negative direction here.

Part A:

  1. The value of the horizontal component of the velocity remains constant throughout the projectile motion.
  2. It remains constant because no acceleration is applied to the horizontal component of the velocity.

Thus, A - II

Part B:

  1. The vertical component of the velocity keeps changing throughout the projectile motion because gravity is acting on it in the downward direction.
  2. Thus, the speed of the projectile keeps changing throughout the projectile motion.
  3. The speed of the projectile firstly decreases and becomes minimum at the maximum height and then again starts increasing in the downward direction.
  4. The landing and launching speeds of the projectile are the same.

Thus B - I, III, IV

Part C:

  1. The only acceleration acting on the projectile is gravity.
  2. Hence, the direction of acceleration will be downwards and its magnitude will be constant.

Thus C - II

Part D:

  1. Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial position and the final position of the object during its motion.
  2. From the projectile motion explained above, it is depicted that the horizontal and vertical displacement of the projectile as measured from point of projection increases.
  3. Thus, the horizontal and vertical displacement of projectile as measured from point of projection changes.

Thus D - I, IV
