In the presence of an electric field, why does each electron experience a force -eE in the opposite direction?

Open in App
Solution

The dirrection of electric field is from positive to negative. The electron gets attracted by positive in the direction of negative to positive .
The force experienced by the electron = qE
= eE (e is the charge of electron)
since the direction of force is opposite to the direction of electric field
Force F = - eE (-ve sign indicates opposite to the direction of electric field)
