Saprophytic organism differs from a parasite with respect to the source of food. Parasite obtains its food from other organisms. It harms the host organism for its nourishment and growth. Whereas saprophytic organism obtains its food from dead and decaying organic matter. It does not depend on living organism for its nourishment and growth.
