Solution

Plant-based food is a source of roughage.

Roughage is defined as a dietary fiber that helps in digestion and keeps the alimentary canal clean. Such as insoluble starch which is absorbed by the colon (part of the large intestine). Roughage aids our bodies in eliminating undigested meals.

These are the foods that are rich in roughage:-

  • Fruit such as berries, pears, melon, and oranges.
  • Vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, and sweetcorn.
  • Peas, beans, and pulses.
  • Nuts and seeds.
  • Potatoes with skin.
