Mesosomes or chondrioids are formed due to infolding of plasma membrane of bacteria. These are more prominent in Gram +ve bacteria. Bacterial chromosome is permanently attached to mesosome and during cell division mesosome takes part in formation of cross wall. They are rich in respiratory enzymes and increase surface area to help in respiration, so these are analogous to eukaryotic mitochondria.
