Question

Is adiabatic process slow or fast?

Open in App
Solution

Solution:

Adiabatic process is a process in which there is no interaction/interconversions takes place between system and surroundings.

It depends on the conditions weather the adiabatic process is either slow or fast or doesn't depend on it.

Condition for fast/slow:

If the system in adiabatic process involves different chambers with different temperature/volume/components are allowed to mix within the system, the adiabatic process will be fast/slow.

Condition for fast:

If the system in a process involves expansion/compression and have to retain the process as adiabatic, then it has to be fast so that the time for heat change with surroundings will be inadequate.

So, we can say that adiabatic process doesn't rigidly depends on to be fast/slow.
