Question

Is cambium present in monocots?

Open in App
Solution

Cambium:

  1. A cambium is a tissue layer in plants that provides partially undifferentiated cells for plant growth.
  2. It is found between the xylem and the phloem.
  3. Cambium (present in dicotyledons but not in monocotyledons) gives rise to secondary xylem and phloem.
  4. In both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants, the stem is mainly composed of basal tissue containing loosely arranged scattered cells.
  5. Monocotyledonous plants do not have cambium. The cambium is involved in the secondary growth (increased perimeter) of dicotyledonous plants.
