Cholecystokinin (CCK) is an important hormonal controller of the digestive process.
It is a peptide hormone secreted in the gastrointestinal tract and stimulates the secretion of pancreatic enzymes from the pancreas and bile juice from the gallbladder.
CCK cells are concentrated in the proximal small intestine, and the hormone is released into the blood upon the ingestion of food.
