Question

Is human blood purple?

Open in App
Solution

Human blood:

  1. Blood is a continuously flowing fluid that feeds the body with nutrients, oxygen, and waste removal. Although blood is mostly a liquid, it contains cells and proteins that make it "thicker" than pure water. The average human has about 5 liters of blood.
  2. A liquid lattice, plasma, and blood corpuscles make up human blood, which is made up of remarkable connective tissues.
  3. Hemoglobin is a protein found in RBC that is responsible for the transportation of oxygen in the blood of vertebrates.
  4. The iron-containing heme group found in hemoglobin in human blood gives blood its red color. However, other species, like brachiopods, have hemerythrin, which when oxygenated causes their blood to appear purple.
  5. As a result, human blood is red and does not come in a purple variety.
