Oogamous reproduction:

  1. Oogamous is the fusion of large immobile female gametes with small motile male gametes.
  2. The female gamete is completely mobile during this form of reproduction.
  3. Examples are humans, some algae etc.

Human reproduction is oogamous:

  1. Yes, sexual reproduction in humans is oogamous.
  2. The enormous non-motile ovum unites with the little flagellated sperm.
  3. In humans size of ovum is 120 µm in diameter and also it is non motile means does not possess flagella.
  4. The size of human sperm is 55-65 µm and also it is flagellated.

Explaination of diagram:

  1. Humans reproduce sexually and their mode is biparental (male and female).
  2. Male produce gametes which are known as sperms carrying haploid (23) number of chromosomes.
  3. Female produce gametes which are known as ova or egg carrying haploid (23) number of chromosomes.
  4. Fusion of male and female gamete is called fertilization.
  5. After fertilization product formed is zygote which is diploid (46).
  6. Zygote divides and forms embryo and the embryo is soon converted into the foetus.
