Question

Is nucleolus present in prokaryotes?

Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotes:

  1. Prokaryotic cells are fairly simple, small (1-10μin size), and primitive-type cells.
  2. Prokaryotic cells have no well-defined nucleus and the genetic material is found scattered within the cell's cytoplasm, called the nucleoid.
  3. These cells do not have membrane-bound cell organelles such as Golgi bodies, mitochondria, lysosomes, ER, peroxisomes, etc.
  4. Prokaryotes do not have a nucleus, so hence do not have a nucleolus.
