Are protists terrestrial or aquatic?

Open in App
Solution

Protista:

  1. Protists are usually unicellular eukaryotes, however, they can also be found in colonies of cells.
  2. The majority of them can be found in damp and moist regions, in water, on land, or even as parasites.
  3. Members of Protista are primarily aquatic.
  4. Being the eukaryotes, the protistan cell body just contains a well-defined nucleus and also the other membrane-bound organelles.
  5. Autotrophic protists possess the chlorophyll that will help them in photosynthesis.
  6. Examples of autotrophic protists: Chlamydomonas.
  7. Protists are also heterotrophic as they depend on the other living things for nutrition.
  8. Actually, all the protists are not heterotrophs they can be autotrophs, heterotrophs or mixotrophs.
  9. Examples of heterotrophic protists: Amoeba, Plasmodium etc.
  10. So basically the protists can act both as autotrophs as well as heterotrophs.
  11. Examples of mixotrophic protists: Euglena.
