Parasitism:

  1. Parasitism is the relationship between two organisms where one species is benefitted and the other species is harmed.
  2. The one that is benefitted is called a parasite and the organism that is harmed is called the host.
  3. The parasite derives benefits from the host in the form of nutrients.
  4. The size of the parasite is smaller than that of the host.

Saprophytes:

  1. Saprophytes obtain their food by converting the remains of dead plants and animals into simple compounds.
  2. The compounds are released by the saprophytes in the atmosphere which are then utilized by producers.
  3. They are present in the soil and at the bottom of ponds, lakes, and oceans.

Rhizopus:

  1. Rhizopus is the common saprophytic fungi that are found on dead and decaying organic matter.
  2. They are generally present on stale bread, dead and decaying vegetables and fruits, jellies pickles, and leather goods.
  3. The body of Rhizopus consists of an interwoven white mass of delicate, colourless thread-like hyphae.
  4. The hyphae are slender and tubular structures.
