Solution
Systole:
It is defined as the period of contraction of the heart muscle during the cardiac cycle.
During systole, the blood is pushed out of the heart and into the large blood vessels of the circulatory system.
A person’s blood pressure increases during systole.
Diastole:
It is defined as the period of relaxation of the heart muscle during the cardiac cycle.
During diastole, the chambers of the heart fill with blood.
A person's blood pressure decreases during diastole.
Duration of systole and diastole:
Generally, diastole is longer than systole.
The duration of diastole also depends on stress.
Diastolic time increases during stress due to high pulse rates.
