Chimpanzee, orangutan, monkey and gibbon are primates and placed in the order Primata along with humans. Primates are mammals that are characterized by their advanced characteristics like high intelligence, mental development, forward facing eyes, grasping hands, etc.
Apes are of two types - they are the greater apes and lesser apes. Chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutan and humans are considered as greater apes with large brain, large body and no tail whereas gibbon is a lesser ape with small body and small brain.
