Question

It costs Rs. 2200 to paint the inner curved surface of a cylindrical vessel 10m deep. If the cost of painting is at the rate of Rs. 20 per m2, find

(i) inner curved surface area of the vessel,

(ii) radius of the base,

(iii) capacity of the vessel,

Solution

Step 1: Given information.

Height of cylinder, h=10m

Cost of painting rate=Rs.20perm2

Step 2: Find the inner curved surface area of the vessel.

Cost of painting for 1m2=Rs.20

Cost to paint the inner curved surface area of the cylinder=Rs.2200

So, the lateral surface area:

L.S.A.=220020=110m2

Step 3: Find the radius of the base.

Let r be the radius of the cylinder.

The lateral surface area of the cylinder=2πrh

110=2πrh110=2×227×r×10r=110×72×22×10r=1.75m

Step 3: Find the capacity of the vessel:

The volume of the cylinder,

V=πr2h=227×1.752×10=227×3.0625×10=96.25m3=96.25kl1kl=1m3

Therefore, the inner curved surface area of the vessel is110m2, the radius of the base is 1.75m, and the capacity of the vessel is 96.25kl.
