The females have two X chromosomes. The female gamete when produced by meiotic division contains one of the copies of the two X chromosomes. The males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. They produce the male gametes which are heterogametic. The fusion of the gamete will result in the formation of the zygote. The sex of the child will be decided by the chromosome which is received from the father. So, the genetic composition of the sperm determines the sex of the child.
