It was a rainy day in Bangalore. Rohit was sitting beside the window when he saw lightning strike. He started his stop watch. After 22 seconds, he heard thunder. Calculate the height of the clouds which caused the lightning. Given,
Speed of light = 3 x 108 ms and Speed of sound = 340ms.

Speed of light is very high. So you can assume zero time delay between the occurence of lightning and the collision of clouds. As the time taken for light to travel from the clouds to the earth is approximately 0. So we can say that lightning happened at t = 0, and sound reached our ears at t = 22s. So, height of clouds = 22 x 340 = 7480m ≈ 7.5km.
