One of the ways in which they are connected to each other are the intercellular junctions or cell junctions. In gap junction, the adjacent cells have protoplasmic connections through special protein cylinder called connexons. These are direct cytoplasm to cytoplasm connections. They facilitate cell communication by movement of ions and molecules between adjacent cells.
