Question

Kw for water is 9.62×1014 at 60oC. Calculate pH of water.

Open in App
Solution

As we know that,
Kw=[H+][OH]
As the water is neutral, and for a neutral solution-
[H+]=[OH]
Kw=[H+]2
Kw=9.62×1014(Given)
[H+]2=9.62×1014
[H+]=9.62×1014=31×108
Now, as we know that,
pH=log[H+]
pH=log(3.1×107)=6.5
Hence the pH of water at 60 is 6.5.
