Label the parts of the nephron.
1-Thick ascending limb 2-Thin ascending limb 3-Distal convoluted tubule 4-Thin descending limb
The nephron or uriniferous tubule is the functional unit of the kidney. A nephron consists of a twisted tubule closed at one end, open at the other with a network of associated blood vessels. Each kidney of humans is formed of about one million nephrons.
The 4 main regions of a nephron are:
(a) Bowman's capsule where filteration of blood takes place
(b) Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT)
(c) Loop of Henle
(d) Distal convoluted tubule (DCT)
The tubular parts of the nephron reabsorbs the required substances like glucose, water, etc., and secretes unwanted substances like urea and excess water as urine. This is followed by collecting duct which collects the urine.
