Solution

Dear student
Since α and β are the roots of the equation: x2-6x-2=0 (α>β) ...(1)If an=αn-βn n1α is the root of eq(1), thereforeα2-6α-2=0α2=6α+2 ...(2)Multiplying through out by αn-2 on both sides, we getαn=6αn-1+2αn-2 ....(3)Similarly βn=6βn-1+2βn-2 ....(4)Subtracting eq(4) by eq(3), we getαn-βn=6αn-1+2αn-2 -6βn-1-2βn-2 αn-βn=6αn-1-βn-1+2αn-2-βn-2an=6an-1+2an-2 ....(5)Now put n=10, we geta10=6a9+2a8Therefore, a10-2a8=6a9hence a10-2a82a9=3
