Let ABCDEF and their areas be 64 cm2 and 121 cm2 respectively. If EF=15.4 cm, find BC.

Since ABCDEF

We know that if two triangles are similar, then ratio of areas is equal to square of ratio of its corresponding sides.

Hence,ar(ABC)ar(DEF)=(BCEF)2

Putting the values,

64121=(BC15.4)2

BC2=64121×15.42

BC=811×15.4=11.2 cm

Hence BC=11.2 cm
