Question

Liquids are incompressible, but gases are readily compressible. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

  • The intermolecular force between the gases is much less compared to that of liquid.
  • When external pressure is applied, the gas molecules can come closer easily than liquid molecules.
  • More pressure is required to do the same with liquids.
  • So we could compress a gas more readily than a liquid.
