Household waste and its types:
Household wastes are the ones that are disposable materials produced by households.
The biodegradable component includes peels of fruits, vegetables, rotten food, etc.
Non-biodegradable components include man-made substances such as soda cans, glass or plastic containers, old household items like broken glasses, plastics, polythene bags, etc.
Ways to reduce household waste:
Reuse: The item can be used for a different purpose, for example- the old clothes can be reused for different purposes like cleaning.
Recycling: This involves the process of converting an old item into a new item. Example: Melting the old plastic bottles to make decorative items. Newspapers can be recycled to form different types of rough paper.
Composting: Manure can be formed from organic waste such as fruit and vegetable peels. The manure can then be used as fertilizer for plants.
Buying environment-friendly products instead of using non-biodegradable products. For instance, cloth bags can be used in place of polythene bags.
