Acids react with active metals to produce hydrogen

E.g. of acids: HNO3 nitric acid, HCl hydrochloric acid, CH3COOH acetic acid etc.

  • Turns red litmus to blue
  • Sour in taste
  • Bitter in taste
  • Release H+ ion in water
  • Release OH- ion in water
  • pH is less than 7
  • pH is more than 7
