Three parts of a nephron

• Bowman's capsule: It is a cup-like structure found at the beginning of the tubular part of the nephron.
• Proximal convoluted tubule: It is the convoluted region present near Bowman's capsule.
• Loop of Henle: It is the hair-pin shaped structure of the nephron. It has two arms descending loop and ascending loop.

Functions

• Bowman's capsule

It helps in the first step of urine formation, i.e. filtration of the blood that reaches the nephron through glomerular capillaries and forms glomerular filtrate.

• Proximal convoluted tubule

Its function is to reabsorb all essential elements like glucose, amino acids, etc., up to a threshold level.

• Loop of Henle

The function of the loop of Henle is to reabsorb water and salt for the maintenance of osmotic balance.
