(A) What gas is prepared using this setup?

(B) Name the catalyst used in the reaction.

(C) Write the chemical reaction taking place.

Solution

(A)

The above experimental setup shows the laboratory preparation of Oxygen(O2) gas from the compound Hydrogenperoxide(H2O2).

(B)

In the laboratory preparation of Oxygen(O2) gas from Hydrogenperoxide(H2O2) , we use it Manganesedioxide(MnO2)as the catalyst.

Catalyst: They are substances that increase the rate of a chemical reaction without undergoing any chemical change. Here the Manganesedioxide(MnO2)act as a catalyst without undergoing any chemical change.

(C)

Decomposition reaction: In a decomposition reaction, a single substance decomposes to form two or more simpler substances. Here the compound Hydrogenperoxide(H2O2) undergoes the decomposition reaction to form Oxygen(O2) and water(H2O) in the presence of catalystManganesedioxide(MnO2).

Chemical equation

2H2O2(aq)HydrogenperoxideMnO22H2O(l)Water+O2(g)Oxygen
