  2. The storming of the Bastille marked the beginning of the French Revolution. The people here belonged to the ‘Third Estate’. One of the social causes is related to them. Also, economic cause is related to their hardship.
Significance: This event influenced the world (concept of fraternity, liberty and equality)

  • The two causes that led to the French Revolution are that the people of the Third Estate did not have any privileges. They were taxed heavily, and the sense of dissatisfaction among people was fueled by French philosophers and thinkers.
  • The revolution awakened the spirit of nationalism. It popularised the concept of democracy.
