Solution

The correct option is C Interspecific hybridization
Interspecific hybridization is the practice of mating of males and females of two different species. Examples are Mule, liger and tigon.

The process involved in the image is interspecific hybridization. Tigon is a product of interspecific hybridization which is produced by crossing a male tiger with a female lion. They exhibit visible characteristics of both parents.
  • They can have both spots from the mother and stripes from the father.
  • Any mane that a male tigon may have will appear shorter and less noticeable than a lion's mane.
  • Tigons normally do not exceed the size of their parent species because they inherit growth-inhibitory genes from both parents.
  • They are smaller than liger (produced by crossing a male lion with a female tiger).
